The Journey So Far...
My name is Stacy Caldwell and I have Brain Cancer called Astrocytoma Glioma. I was diagnosed with this on 3/31/08 this was after many doctor visits with horrable headaches but no surgery was performed until the seizures started and when I had the neurological tests they could see that the seizures were quite significant.
Still thinking it may not be cancer the neurosurgeon did surgery on 3/31/08 after the mayo clinic results returned 2 days later I was found to have Astrocytoma Glioma.
Over the summer 2009 I went through radiation which was unsuccessful and the surgery did not get very much of the tumor as they did not know it was cancer at the time of the surgery.
The problem with where my Astrocytoma is that it isn't a tumor that can be taken out it is a cancer that takes over the cells that are already there and mine is not in a favorable spot of the brain it is in the right side near the back and after surgery and radiation I have lost most of the feeling on the left side which has made my right side work harder and has caused extreme pain. My memory has been impaired which makes daily life very difficult. Also, because of the seizures, I have been unable to drive.
I have a wonderful husband Michael Caldwell who has been very supportive he works for DI. Mike takes off and helps me as much as he can or as much as his work will let him.
I used to work for the state of Utah but have been unable to since the surgery due to all my health problems.
I have three wonderful children. My oldest child is 17 years old. His name is Tyler and he loves sports especially the Mavericks! He helps out at home tremendously it has been hard watching him take on part of the burden. We try to make sure he doesn't take on to much.
BreeAnna is 11 years old and loves horses. She is also a great help. BreeAnna also loves sports very much.
Malia is my baby and is now almost 7 years old she is a sweetheart and worries about me constantly she doesn't like me to be alone. Malia is my girly girl and loves all things pink and sparkly.
We know there is a reason for all things and pray that we can endure with our heads held high but always on our knees in prayer. We are grateful to our Father in Heven for his constant guidance and love that he shows us and for the wonderful people he has sent into our lives to help us. We have many good friends through our church who have been constant and shown unconditional love. Also the people I have met at radiation and in doctors offices my heart goes out to them and my love and support.
May everyone be blessed and feel the peace we so often feel that this life is not the end but only the beginning of many things to come.
Love-
Stacy
